Ms. Dominique Sharpton,
Director of Membership
Membership is vital to the growth of an organization. It’s the members and supporters that keep our organization prospering towards reaching the fulfillments of the people we fight for on a daily basis. Whether it is attending a protest, rally, or demonstration, volunteering an hour of your time in one of our offices, or chairing your own committee, it is you that keeps NAN moving and developing, and we appreciate your interest and commitment in our fight to pursue justice.
Are you tired of feeling like your voice is not being heard in your community? Do you have a crisis and need help but feel there’s no one who will listen to your case? Do you want your children to grow up intertwined in a movement that speaks for them and allows them to speak up for themselves? Do you want to join an organization that consists of many different people in so many different professions and involved in a broad spectrum of opportunities to better themselves and their community at your reach? Do you want to be a part of history in the making? If you’ve answered yes to one or more of these questions then maybe you should join the National Action Network under the direction of one of today’s prominent civil rights leaders, The Rev. Dr. Al Sharpton. We are currently protesting a lot of change in this country, and have recently seen a lot of that change that we’ve been fighting for so long, put into play, but at the end of the day in order to evoke and carry out that change, we have to ensure that we as individuals are doing our part, and making our voices heard to ensure that the change is effective.
Reasons to Join NAN
*To Build an organizational “Support Base: around yourself &Family members “Before” an emergency occurs.
* To become part of a historical Legacy of “Civil Rights” Activists as were members of Martin Luther King’s movement that will be directly responsible for making positive changes in the way we live & therefore becoming a “Solution” & not a part of our problems.
*To be able to finally positively create the news you normally go home and simply “Watch” through your “Activism”.
“I want to thank Rev Sharpton for his tireless efforts in the New York Post cartoon saga. I became a lifetime member because of Mr. Sharpton's outstanding work in civil rights. He is doing what we all should be doing, fighting for our rights. If I cannot be on the frontline daily, I decided to provide my support the best way I can by becoming a lifetime member. As a retired 28 year military retiree, I know how to fight. I also know a good fight when I see one and Mr. Sharpton is best fighter for this civil rights job. Keep up the great work!”

Dominique’s statement at the “Bury the Beef” Press Conference at the House of Justice Auditorium (May 11th, 2009)
As a National Director of Membership for the National Action Network at 22 years old, it is an honor to work for a civil rights organization, while simultaneously helping my immediate community and continuing the legacy of my father, The Rev. Dr. Al Sharpton. Growing up in the network I was privileged to understand the social, economical, and educational oppression that face African- Americans. Unfortunately many of my peers and community members do not understand the sad state that we are in today as a country, and as a result we are killing each other by gang violence. As a community we must stand against the violence that we are inherently inflicting on ourselves. Most often when a fatal crime happens, we jump and protest which is all fine but we ALL must take a proactive approach instead of a reactive approach. We must go back to our history and teach our children to love themselves so that they can love others. It is time that we stand up and effectively find solutions to this black on black epidemic. As the national director of membership for the National Action Network I humbly beg you to come to the Network and become positively active in your community. Find or even initiate an organization that will ultimately serve to better the black community and even the black Diaspora. You were that 15 yr. old kid who thinks attaining Money, Power and respect is having Gucci, a .45 and over 50 bodies under your belt….you are that 22 year old mother of 3 whose occupation is punching holes in condoms and collecting child support checks…she is that 16 yr. old dropout with a burner on her waist and a razor under her tongue looking for an easy victim to stick up in order to feed her 3 month old baby girl because nobody wants to hire an ex con…He is that 12 year old lil homie on the block pitching nicks and dimes to feed him and his littler sister because Mama’s a crack head and Daddy’s a stranger.
As T.I. puts it “Life is an interesting journey…you never know where it will take you”
It took Obama to the White House
It took Martin to the Monument
But it took 13 year old Christopher Owens & 17 year old Corey Squire right up the block to their graves…
Where will it take you?

To Understand This Moment
To truly understand this moment in time, you have to grasp all that has happened to bring us to this place.
You have to understand slavery and how it ripped apart our families, took away our status, stripped us of our manhood and gave us new names.
You have to understand how we were promised, and never received, our 40 acres and a mule.
You have to understand Jim Crow and how its laws beat down on our people and dehumanized us.
You have to understand bathrooms marked? COLORED? And sitting only on the back of the bus.
You have to understand lynching’s in the South and know about Emmett Till.
You see, to truly understand this moment, you have to not only know something, but feel something.
You have to feel the perseverance of Marcus Garvey, Harriet Tubman, Mary McCloud Bethune, Sojourner Truth, Booker T. Washington and countless others.
You have to feel the anguish of Daisy Bates, Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, Adam Clayton Powell Jr. and millions of others.
You have to have courage like Shirley Chisholm, Alan Keyes, Carol Moseley Braun, Lenora Fulani,
Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton,
Yes, to truly understand this moment in time, you have to know a little history, identify with the struggle and?
You have to be able to dream a dream like Martin Luther King Jr.
To dream a dream that seems impossible, like millions of parents who told their children by faith, that one day they could be President, even when they didn’t believe it themselves.
See, it takes all of this and so much more to truly understand this moment.
Do you understand?
